Somalia’a Minister of Planning Meets with EU Head of Cooperation to Strengthen Partnership

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, H.E. Mohamud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene), met with European Union Head of Cooperation Caroline Adriaensen on Tuesday to discuss ongoing EU-supported programs and future collaboration efforts in Somalia.

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, was also attended by the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Mohamed Shire. Discussions focused on aligning EU initiatives with the Somali government’s transformative agenda under the National Transformation Plan (NTP). Both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring that EU-supported programs complement national priorities aimed at fostering sustainable development and institutional reform.

The parties explored ways to enhance the partnership between the Ministry and the EU, particularly in strengthening the coordination of EU interventions and programs across the country. Advancing institutional capacity development was another key topic, with agreement on the need for comprehensive strategies to bolster governance and public service delivery.

The EU has been a longstanding partner in Somalia’s development, supporting a range of initiatives from infrastructure to governance reforms. This meeting signals a continued commitment to aligning efforts for greater impact on Somalia’s path to stability and growth.
