National Durable Solutions Technical Working Group Meeting Fosters Collaborative Strategies for Lasting Solutions for Displacement-Affected Communities in Somalia

On August 27, 2023, the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development’s Durable Solutions Unit held a National Durable Solutions Technical Working Group meeting in Mogadishu. The meeting aims to address the challenges faced by displaced communities in Somalia. Attendees included representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Federal Member States (FMS), Banadir Regional Administration (BRA), United Nations Organizations, International and National NGOs, the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO), and the Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS).

The National Durable Solutions Technical Working Group primary focus is a collaborative platform for stakeholders deliberate on collective action to resolving situations of displacement is prioritized and to charter out actionable programmes which will guide the investment, financing, joint operations and mutual accountability of national and international partners working on Durable Solutions building on the remarkable progress that has been made over the years in creating an enabling environment to tackle forced displacement.

Working Group Members discussed insights from the durable solutions program mapping exercise, which highlighted the complexities surrounding displacement in Somalia. The mapping exercise provided a foundation for data-driven decision-making and demonstrated the importance of data in shaping strategies for lasting impact.

The meeting also featured deliberations on harmonizing approaches, acknowledging the diverse range of stakeholders involved in the durable solutions efforts. A roadmap was outlined to align strategies, ensuring that efforts are synergized across various entities. This collaborative roadmap aims to optimize the use of resources, expertise, and insights towards achieving the shared goal of sustainable solutions for displaced communities.

The National Durable Solutions Technical Working Group meeting showcased the commitment of all participating parties to addressing the challenges of displacement collectively and comprehensively. The Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development reiterates its commitment to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that displaced communities in Somalia receive the necessary support to achieve stability and enduring solutions.
