MOGADISHU, Somalia (Nov. 7, 2024) — Somalia’s Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development (MoPIED), through its Aid Coordination Office, hosted the third Pillar Working Group (PWG) meetings, bringing together government officials, international partners, and donors to advance the National priorities. The meetings focused on five pillars critical to Somalia’s growth: Economic Development, Environment and Climate Change, Inclusive Politics, Justice and Security, and Social Development.
Each working group discussed strategic objectives under the NTP framework, which aims to drive sustainable development across Somalia. The Economic Development pillar addressed updates in the energy, agriculture, and private sectors. Stakeholders emphasized cross-sector collaboration and accountability to support economic resilience.
The Environment and Climate Change pillar explored Somalia’s environmental goals, including preparations for COP and adaptive climate strategies.
The Inclusive Politics pillar focused on upcoming elections, stabilization efforts, and the WADAJIR framework rollout to strengthen governance. In the Justice and Security pillar, participants reviewed Somalia’s justice sector strategy, stabilization initiatives, and ongoing legal reforms aimed at bolstering rule of law.
The Social Development pillar concluded the day with discussions on social protection, education, and health, including Somalia’s Unified Social Registry System and a recent recruitment of 3,000 teachers. Officials and donors reiterated the importance of coordinated social programs to enhance well-being across Somali communities.
