MOGADISHU — The Monitoring and Evaluation Department of the Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development (MoPIED) of the Federal Government of Somalia convened a meeting today to discuss accountability mechanisms for international organizations operating in Somalia. The discussion focused on five key organizations: Islamic Relief, ACTED, Alight (formerly IRC), Adam Smith International, and DT Global.
Representatives from federal ministries overseeing the Social and Economic Development pillars of the National Transformation Plan (2025–2029) participated in the meeting. These pillars are central to achieving Somalia’s long-term development goals and improving the delivery of essential services.
“This forum is a vital step towards ensuring that international partners align their projects with Somalia’s development priorities,” said Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mohamud Said Nur. “Transparency and accountability are key to building trust and fostering effective partnerships.”
The session laid the groundwork for a comprehensive accountability forum scheduled for February 9–13, 2025. This forum will review ongoing projects, assess their alignment with national goals, and identify areas for improvement in development coordination.
Participants emphasized the importance of rigorous monitoring and evaluation to ensure that projects funded by international agencies effectively address local needs and contribute to sustainable growth.
MoPIED remains committed to strengthening its partnership with international organizations through improved transparency and collaboration, ensuring that development projects have a lasting impact on Somali communities.
