State Minister Abdirashid Jire Khalinle Attends IGAD CLIMSA Meeting

October 8, 2024 Nairobi, Kenya: – H.E. Abdirashid Jire Khalinle, Somalia’s State Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, participated today in the third high-level IGAD CLIMSA meeting focused on mainstreaming climate services into policies, development plans, and programming.

During the event, Khalinle highlighted the severe impacts of recurrent climate shocks, which have caused loss of life, destruction of property, and damaged livelihoods. He emphasized the Somali government’s commitment to addressing climate change through a comprehensive approach, including enhancing institutional frameworks, formulating necessary policies, and strengthening the resilience of communities.

Khalinle also underscored the significant role of Somalia’s National Development Plan 9 (NDP-9) in addressing climate impacts, which contributed to reducing poverty levels. He noted that the upcoming National Transformation Plan (NTP), currently under formulation, will feature a dedicated pillar for addressing climate action priorities.

Additionally, Khalinle reiterated the Federal Government of Somalia’s (FGS) commitment to working with IGAD member states and international partners to ensure that climate services are not only integrated into development plans but also shape climate-informed policies and programs at both the national and regional levels.
