Transforming Livelihoods in Galmudug State, Somalia
In the heart of Galmudug State, Somalia, the town of Adado has witnessed a profound transformation, one that promises to uplift the lives of its agropastoral communities. This transformation is marked by the inauguration of the Adado Livestock Market, a critical infrastructure development under the Somalia Water for Rural Resilience Project, also known as “Barwaaqo,” led by the Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development of Somalia.
The Adado Livestock Market, which officially opened its gates in June 2024, represents more than just a trading venue—it is a symbol of economic empowerment and hope for the people of Adado and its surrounding villages. The project was inaugurated by His Excellency Ahmed Abdi Karie (Qoorqoor), President of Galmudug State, alongside other key dignitaries, signaling the beginning of a new era for the region’s economy.
President Qoorqoor captured the essence of this transformation when he stated, “It’s a great opportunity and honor to officially open this market, which was constructed to modern standards. There are separate areas within the market for sold and unsold livestock.” This modern infrastructure is set to revolutionize the way livestock trading is conducted, driving economic growth and improving the livelihoods of countless families.
