In July, the Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development of the Federal Government of Somalia made significant strides in various developmental initiatives and projects aimed at transforming the country’s socio-economic landscape.
Key highlights include:
- Workshops and Training Sessions: The Ministry organized multiple workshops focusing on the Sustainable Economic Transformation Pillar and the Social and Human Capital Transformation Pillar of the National Transformation Plan (NTP: 2025-2029). These sessions enhanced participants’ knowledge and skills, facilitated stakeholder engagement, and addressed data validation and stakeholder roles.
- Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Initiatives: The M&E Department conducted several training sessions and meetings, including a 5-day training in Dhusamareeb to improve data collection and analysis skills and a consultative meeting on the National Integrated Monitoring and Evaluation System (e-NIMIS). Furthermore, the department hosted a preliminary joint meeting to review EU-funded projects and a quarterly meeting focusing on the 2024 Work Plan for FGS, UN, and INGOs.
- High-Level Meetings and Collaborations: Minister H.E. Mohamud A. Sheikh Farah participated in key meetings with Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Salah Jama, the Development Director of the British Embassy, and co-chaired the UN Somalia Joint Fund management group meeting. These engagements aimed to accelerate the formulation of the NTP, strengthen aid coordination, and approve funding for proposals.
- Legislative Developments: The Minister presented the Somalia Investment Bill to the House of the People, marking its second reading, which is crucial for Somalia’s economic development.
- Development Alliance Forum: SOMINVEST organized the first Development Alliance Forum to revitalize key markets through investments, fostering a cooperative approach to economic growth.
- National Evaluation Curriculum and Standards: The Ministry kicked off the development of the National Evaluation Curriculum and Standards to support strategic decision-making, cultural sensitivity, and capacity building.
- Language Proficiency Training: Staff completed advanced training in proper Somali language writing to ensure the highest standards of language proficiency in official correspondence.
