Earlier today, the Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development (MoPIED) of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Mohamud Abdirahman Beenbeene, presided over the inaugural meeting of the Somalia National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS) Board of Directors. The meeting began with an introduction of the board members, followed by the election of Mr. Abdi Osman as the chairperson and Omar Ali as his deputy. In attendance were Mr. Mohamed Shire and Mr. Sharmarke Farah, both Director-Generals of MoPIED and SNBS, respectively, as well as other board members.
This meeting marks a significant step forward in establishing a robust statistical system in Somalia, which will serve as a foundation for evidence-based policymaking and development planning. The government is committed to ensuring that the SNBS operates independently and transparently to provide accurate and reliable data for the country’s socio-economic development.
